Kedarnath Temple is expected to open on Akshaya Tritiya in May 2026 (approx. May 2nd, 2026). The exact date is announced by the temple priests based on auspicious timings. The temple closes on Diwali day in November 2026. The journey is possible only between these dates as the area receives heavy snowfall in winter.
Is the Kedarnath trek difficult? Are there alternatives? +
The Kedarnath trek is 16 km from Gaurikund and takes 6โ€“8 hours on foot. It involves moderate to steep terrain. Alternatives include: Ponies (horses), Palki (sedan chairs carried by 4 persons), and Helicopters from Phata/Sirsi helipad near Guptkashi.
